This spring, denim gets a stylish rehaul with designers across the globe embracing the comfy cotton fabric and all it stands for. Although the ubiquitous (yet stylish!) jeans remain in fashion, denim has been scrubbed and scuffed to soften its texture and turned into tastefully sophisticated jackets, blazers, button-down shirts and more. Here’s our take on the 2015 spring/summer denim trend.

The Jacket
The 20th century invention, the denim jacket, is back with a bang. This humble classic is now being reimagined in both a trim, body-fit version as well as an oversize silhouette. Burberry’s Christopher Bailey is layering lightweight denim jackets (worn like shirts) with blazers, enhancing them with bold scarves. Prada’s jackets now come with top stitch detailing while Patrick Grant’s contrasting white stitch on deep indigo jackets are bold and eye-catching. Denim blazers and coats with a tailored feel are now in fashion, so whip out your denim jackets and wear ‘em layered!

The Shirt
Kenzo, the oh-so-popular Parisian brand, showed off their latest collection with prevalence of denim. A denim buttoned-up shirt or an oversized smock shirt teemed with trousers with a zip detail has hit the right chord on the ramp. Tom Ford redefined elegant evening wear offering denim as a formal alternative. The faded denim shirt is being layered with a leather, linen or suede jacket and looks very stylish. Collarless, oversize denim shirts as well as denim shirts with double collars are all the rage this season. Slim fit denim shirts tucked in or emphasized with a tie, a vest or a scarf is the best way to flaunt the trend.

The Jeans
Torn, faded, distressed, splattered with colour or just plain, slim jeans are the new hip. Jeans now are also ruling the ‘chino’ roost and have become the new formal trouser especially in black, blue or indigo.
