No grunge look is complete without a jacket. Our pick would be a bomber jacket, but you could turn to a regular straight-fit one as well. In leather, suede and sometimes even thick denim, a jacket is all you need to elevate your basic white or grey T-shirt. If a T-shirt doesn’t speak grunge to you, try a plaid shirt on for size. It is considered to be a grunge essential and you probably own one anyway!
The perfect accompaniment to your plaid shirt and bomber jacket is a pair of jeans. Distressing is always welcome, as is acid wash. Stick to colours such as light grey, charcoal grey and black and if you absolutely must pick blue, make sure it is an icy, light blue.
The final step is to make sure your footwear complements the rest of your grunge outfit. Classic black or white high-tops and basic sneakers work fine, as do leather slip-on sneakers. If you’d like more variation, pick desert boots or boots that sit at, or slightly above, your ankle.
When it comes to sporting grunge fashion, the key is to pick a colour palate that comprises black, white and grey, for all items barring your plaid shirt where a red or deep green is acceptable. When it comes to jeans, jackets and shoes, stick to cool-toned greys and blacks to keep the vibe intact.
