How to wear a bandhgala

With a history of rich cultural heritage, the bandhgala is a more than worthy counterpart to the tuxedo. Known as the Jodhpur jacket, this Indian classic has been reinterpreted time and again to make it more elegant, stately and versatile. Immortalised by the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru and coveted by The Beatles, the bandhgala has found international acclaim and appeal over the years.
Pair it up
It looks fantastic as a pure formal suit with a Nehru collar shirt, a pop colour pocket square and rounded lace-up shoes. It looks equally enticing when worn in a more relaxed way too. Wear the bandhgala, like a classic blazer, with narrow cut trousers in a different colour or even with jeans. If you choose to leave your coat slightly open at the neck and add a scarf or a cravat, it will add panache to the overall look.
Contemporary bandhgalas come in a wide palette of colours that—apart from the classic black—includes plush greens, jewel tones and powdery pastels in opulent materials like silks, wools, cashmeres and linens.
The bandhgala has a universal appeal, like the ubiquitous white shirt. Yet, it has broken convention and has undergone experiments with collar variations, flattering silhouettes and varying lengths. All this makes this jacket an almost necessary addition to have in your wardrobe. Wear it as a traditional favourite to a formal occasion or make a statement by wearing it to brunch.
